Programming, Robotics, and Electric Circuits
In this section, we learned about electronics and circuitry, and we learned how to program in a programming language called Python.
In the electronics part of this unit, we learned about how electricity works and how circuits work. In the programming part of this unit, we used a free website called Codecademy.com to learn how to program in a language called Python. Codecademy.com is an interactive website where we were able to independently learn to program, rather than just reading about it or being taught by a teacher. With our knowledge of Python my group and our neighboring group banded together to build and program a remote controlled car robot.

We learned about electronics and circuitry with a large detailed packet explaining many concepts of electric circuitry. We were graded on our knowledge of the subject after about two weeks of studying and work. To prove our knowledge we had to create a working circuit that had a LED blink on and off(which is way more complicated than you would expect)

Building and programming our robot was the most fun part of this project. We used a system called Rasberry Pie to program and run our robot car. We spent several hours programming our car to move certain directions with certain keys on a wireless keyboard. The end result looked like this...

Here is a picture more focused on the circuitry...
Concepts:
Circuit: A complete loop of conductive material with a power source.
Series Circuit: When two resistors are in the same line.
Parallel Circuit: When two resistors split from the same line to separate lines.
Current: The amount of flow of electricity through a circuit; splits when in parallel; Measured in Amps.
Voltage: The power that electricity gives off; splits when in series; Measured in Volts.
Resistors: Poor conductors that reduce voltage; Measured in Ohms. If the resistors are in series, just add them to find their total resistance. If the resistors are in parallel, put each resistor's measurement in the denominator (1/R) and then add them.

This was one of my favorite projects because the whole thing I knew very little about but now I am very confident in my knowledge. The only real down to this project was the amount of time it took. But it was still great. One main virtue that enhanced during this project was my patience. The amount of time total I spent on codecademy.com learning python was just over 16 hours, but again, totally worth it. Over all my favorite project this semester, second all year.
