Hybrid Car Design
The objective of the hybrid car was to design and build a prototype for an energy efficient car. My group was Poh Maga, Maielle Wienstock and myself. We would precede to present to a group of Hyundai executives. The car must travel 5 meters and be able to hold a weight of 250 grams. Gas powered motors were forbidden requiring us to come up with an alternate power source that did not use up fossil fuels. Our sales pitch was a slide show and a verbal presentation.

We decided to use a simple electric motor attached to a frame made out of steel beams. We also attached a trailer to hold the mass so we could reduce friction. After deciding on the power source we had to figure out how to stop the car since we had no manual control over it. We wrapped a certain amount of string around the axle so it would stop at exactly 5 meters. During our presentation our car went exactly 5 meters, but not in the right direction.
CONCEPTS:
Potential Energy- Potential energy is energy being stored by a force such as gravity or electricity.
Kinetic Energy- Kinetic Energy is the amount of energy during motion, ideally all potential energy transfers directly into kinetic.
Thermal Energy- Thermal Energy is part of the total potential and kinetic energy and is created by friction.
Friction- Friction is the resistance between to objects moving over each other.
Acceleration- The rat in which an object speeds up.

REFLECTION:
During this project I was tested mentally and physically I also learned a very important lesson, perseverance. Over all, I had a ton of fun working with such a wonderful group. We were always on task and using our problem solving skills. We had several problems in which we had to put our heads together. We fixed our main problem but didn't have enough time to make the final tweaks and test it out. But near the end we sorta gave up and that was our downfall. The lesson I learned was, don't hope for the best, make it the best.
